Davido’s Fem becomes new anthem of Nigeria’s youth

High energy star Davido’s hit single Fem has been adopted as the anthem of Nigeria’s youth who have gone to the streets to protest against police brutality.

The #EndSARS protesters have been demonstrating for more than a week against a notoriously brutal and corrupt police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to scrap the unit and replace it with a new unit called Swat.

But the demonstrators say they have had enough and are skeptical of the new unit. They want an end to all police brutality in the country.

At least ten people have died in the protests and a group of hoodlums attacked a peaceful protest in the capital Abuja on Wednesday and started beating up the protestors.

At demonstrations throughout the country, youths have joined in singing the upbeat song Fem, that appears to have raised their spirits.

Dozens of versions have been posted on social media.

Davido himself has been among a group of Nigerian artists including Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Don Jazzy and Lady Donli who are supporting the demonstrations.

Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, is one of the biggest stars in Africa today – and his street cred has been massively enhanced by Nigeria’s youth.
