Solly Moholo, once arguably the biggest gospel artist in the country, has set off down a new career path: cross-dressing in maternity outfits and holding prayer sessions with expectant mothers.
The unique new gig is part of his return to the industry. He took a six-year sabbatical which was extended after contracting Covid-19 and battling the side effects.
As part of his private service, Moholo dresses in a fetching yellow dress, complete with fake breasts and a baby bump.
He then leads a prayer session with the expectant mothers to help protect the unborn babies from evil spirits and dark forces that he believes target women in this vulnerable condition.
The 64-year-old also prays for the babies’ safety once they are born to protect them from rapists, abductors and evil spirits.
Moholo also plays an instrument and sings sweet melodies for the unborn baby.
Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, Moholo said: “I have learned through doctors that unborn babies respond positively to good music and this is important for their growth.”
Talking about where he got the idea for his outlandish new job, he said: “I am a consumer of news. That is where I get my inspiration for all songs.
“I grew concerned that a week doesn’t go by without a report about a child that has been kidnapped, abducted, raped, abused and even killed.
“I decided that as part of my new project, I will focus my gift as a pastor on praying for expectant mothers,” he said.
Since the inception of the project in December, Moholo has been overwhelmed by invitations for private performances.
“Many are interested in the project mostly for the private prayer sessions and are even willing to pay, though I am currently offering the services for free.
“Unfortunately we could not get to as many bookings as we had wished as many clashed with some of my paid gigs during the festive season,” he said.
The musician will be releasing his new amapiano song “Stop Killing Police” on 29 January.
The release was set for 7 January but was pushed back by Sony Music.
