Polokwane – Emmanuel Charles Maboko, 33, has been sentenced to three life terms by the Polokwane High Court for killing a University of Limpopo academic and two other men. Professor Mohamed Saber Tayod was shot and killed by Maboko while jogging. Maboko also killed Malatji Putana Lucas, 33, and Luvhimbi Edward Muofhe, 57. These murders happened between March and April 2022.
Graskop – Mpumalanga police have arrested two men for the robbery and kidnapping of a German tourist on Monday. The tourist was attacked after withdrawing money from an ATM at a fuel station in Graskop. A concerned passerby called the police, leading to the suspects being arrested in nearby bushes. The police rescued the injured victim.
Maseding – In Mpumalanga’s Maseding section, two house robbers were arrested on Sunday following a shootout with the police. The police received information about a planned house robbery in Marapyane. When they arrived, suspects in a white Volkswagen Polo opened fire. Police responded, injuring one suspect, 38, who was hit in his upper and lower body. The second suspect, 30, was later found hiding in the Legodi section with the Polo’s car keys.
Mankweng – Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for community members involved in a mob attack that killed a robber. Police responded to a business robbery complaint in Mamadimo Park on Thursday last week and found an unidentified man with head injuries. Emergency services declared him dead on the scene. The man had held up a shop owner at gunpoint, but nearby residents witnessed the crime and assaulted him.
Bushbuckridge – Witness Monareng, 28, has received a 77-year prison sentence for the murder of a couple in February, along with other crimes, including housebreaking and two counts of aggravated robbery. Monareng and unidentified accomplices forced their way into Albert Mashego’s home in Violet Bank Trust, demanding money, cellphones, and bank cards. When Mashego explained that his bank cards were with his girlfriend, Victoria Mmathapelo Lebjane, Monareng forced him to drive to her home in Zoekung Trust. There, Monareng fatally shot both Mashego and Lebjane before fleeing with the bank card.
