In the fight against drug dealers in the Western Cape, police officers from the Anti-Economical and Extortion Task Team arrested a 42-year-old foreigner for dealing in drugs worth an estimated R1-million on Tuesday.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said: āIn the early hours of Tuesday, 29 October, a multi-disciplinary team responded to intelligence-driven information [regarding a possible distribution point for drugs] and approached a residence in Parow.ā
A search was conducted, which resulted in the recovery of a consignment of drugs with an estimated street value of R1-million.
Once charged, the suspect is expected to appear in the Parow Magistrateās Court.
In an unrelated incident, police from Operation Restore reacted to information about suspicious activities at premises in Parklands.
āThey monitored the location and conducted a search and seizure operation at the house in Carlton Crescent at about 11.30am, which resulted in the recovery of 1,824 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R700,000,ā Swartbooi said.
Three men, aged 23 to 45, were detained for possessing abalone without a valid permit.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrateās Court.
Parow resident Yoliswa Sithelo said: āIf the police continue with this, I believe that people transporting drugs will think twice. Things have changed, and we are happy that officers are doing their job. What we want to see is for the perpetrators to stay behind bars,ā she said.
A resident speaking anonymously doesnāt believe that foreigners are working alone.
āI think they are working with South Africans. The law must play its part and make sure that all the suspects pay for breaking the law. They must get harsher sentences to send a strong message to other lawbreakers out there,ā said the resident.
