A 51-year-old security guard at Sharicrest Primary School in Lenasia has been arrested for raping a 11-year-old learner and sexually violating a 10-year-old in the schoolās guard room.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the suspect is expected to appear before the Protea Magistrate Court soon to face a charge of rape.
On Monday, 28 September, the guard offered the girl food in the guardroom where he repeatedly raped her.
The girlās mother who cannot be named to protect her daughterās identity told Scrolla.Africa that she detected a change in her daughterās behaviour.
āShe wouldnāt tell me what was wrong but I could see that she was in pain,ā she said. āHer behaviour turned for the worse as she started being reserved at home and preferred sleeping at my friendās home.
āMy friend told me that she noticed her strange behaviour when she was sleeping as if she was in pain.
āWe decided to question her and she opened up about the ordeal,ā the mother said.
The girl told her mother that the guard forced her to lie on her stomach on his reflector vest.
āHe locked her in the guard room where he continuously raped her,ā the mother said. āLater in the day he released her on condition that she would not tell anyone about the ordeal or he would kill her.ā
The mother called a virginity tester who confirmed the girl was no longer a virgin.
On Monday, Lenasia community members protested at the school to demand that it terminate the suspectās contract.
A community leader, Tansi Moloi, said another learner, a 10-year-old girl, came forward alleging that the guard forced her to perform an indecent act on him while he watched pornographic videos in the guard room.
āWe suspect there may be more learners who were sexually violated by the suspect, and we need the Department of Education to assist with social workers to help identify other victims.
āWe will not rest until the suspect is held responsible for his actions,ā Moloi said.
