- All 22,000 spots for the 2026 Comrades Marathon sold out in under 10 hours after entries opened to the public on Monday.
- Organisers say entries are capped for safety reasons, with the 99th edition set for 14 June from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Entries for the 2026 Comrades Marathon were sold out in record time, with all 22,000 spots snapped up in less than 10 hours.
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) said the rush showed how much passion runners still have for “The Ultimate Human Race”.
The first 2,600 entries opened last week for CMA members and runners who have already completed 10 races. The rest went on sale to the public on Monday morning – and were gone by the afternoon.
In 2017, when entries sold out quickly, organisers added 1,500 more spots. But the CMA has not said whether it will do the same this time. The association said the limit on entries is for safety reasons.
The 99th running of the Comrades will take place on 14 June 2026. It will be an “up” run, starting at Durban City Hall and finishing at the Scottsville racecourse in Pietermaritzburg.
The Comrades is one of South Africa’s oldest and most famous races, attracting runners from across the world.
