- The nine-year-old victim is too scared to go to school because she uses the same route as her alleged attacker.
- Community members marched to the school demanding the teenage boy be suspended until DNA results and court case are completed.
The community of Cabazi in KwaBhaca is angry after a teenage boy accused of rape was allowed back to school.
Parents gathered on Wednesday to march to the school. They want the 17-year-old boy suspended until police finish investigating the case.
The boy is accused of raping a nine-year-old girl in August.
A community member said the attack happened when the little girl went to play at the boy’s home with his niece.
“The little girl told her family despite him threatening to kill her. She had to go to hospital after what happened,” the community member said.
The girl’s friend also spoke up. She said the boy had attacked her and another girl before.
Social workers and police came to the boy’s home. Police took his DNA for testing.
“The problem we have is that he is back in school. The child who says he attacked her is afraid to go to school,” the community member said.
The victims use the same route to school as the boy every day. They are scared of seeing him.
“We decided to go to the school and ask that the boy be suspended until the DNA results come back,” the community member said.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said they are investigating a rape case.
The 17-year-old suspect will appear in the Children’s Court on Monday, 8 September 2025.
