With Andile Jali’s contract with Mamelodi Sundowns running out at the end of June this year, several clubs have opened negotiations with the player.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined Sundowns in 2018 after parting ways with Belgian side KV Oostende.
When a player enters his final six months of contract, teams are permitted to embark on discussions regarding a free transfer when the contract comes to an end.
In the past three seasons Jali has been outstanding with some calling for his return to Bafana Bafana but coach Hugo Broos has turned a blind eye to these impressive displays.
The player’s agent Mike Makaab told Scrolla.Africa that they have been contacted by some local and overseas clubs regarding a potential move.
“Oh yes there has been massive interest in Jali but we have given Sundowns first option,” said Makaab.
“From where I sit Sundowns are keen to have him for many years but it will depend on a few things like if the player still wants to stay there or wants a challenge elsewhere.”
Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena said Jali is still an important player despite not getting a run during the club’s 2-0 win over Pirates last Friday.
“Jali is important to the future of the club. He has incredible leadership qualities and he is very important to have around. He has the right mentality and his insights are great,” he said after the game.
“I use him as a fourth assistant coach because when he sits on the bench he gives me a lot of information about what he sees. He has good experience apart from the human qualities, which is something we appreciate and love having in the club.”
Jali was among the biggest winners in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards last season, scooping MTN8 Last Man Standing, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, and DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season.
Jali has only made 10 appearances across all competitions this season.
