Manchester City may have suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, but the champions-elect have returned to winning ways in style by thumping Southampton 5-2 on Thursday.
Two goals apiece from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez, plus a tap-in goal from Ilkay Guendogan, at Etihad Stadium in Manchester helped City bounce back after United ended their 28-game unbeaten run.
The win for the Citizens consolidated their position on top of the log table and widened the gap to 14 points ahead of second place Manchester United.
Phil Foden said losing the Manchester derby was a bitter pill to swallow and it was important for them to bounce back to regular wins.
“It wasn’t nice losing the derby. But we rolled up our sleeves and got back to winning ways,” Foden said on the Manchester City Twitter page.
“It was really important for us to get back on track today.”
