On Tuesday, Chippa United boss Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality handed over a new, fully furnished house to the Budaza family from Motherwell.
The family lost their home in a fire in August and the municipality asked Mpengesi to help the family.
“We believe in uplifting our communities and standing by our people in times of need,” Mpengesi said.
“This home is not just a gift of bricks and mortar but a sign of solidarity with the families of Motherwell.”
Mpengesi’s foundation did the construction work and furnished the house.
Kholeka Budaza said: “We lost everything in that fire – not just our belongings but our dignity as well. But today, all of that has been restored. I am grateful to everyone who played a role in ensuring that we now have a place to call home.”
Mayor Gary van Niekerk said: “I am extremely proud of developments like this, which prove that by uniting our resources and hearts, we can make our municipality truly great.”
Mpengesi often helps needy families. His passion for helping others comes from his time living in a Cape Town shack while working as a security guard. His company, Chippa Holdings, builds houses using eco-friendly materials.
