Kaizer Chiefs claimed their fifth win in a row by beating Magesi Football Club 4-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday, 15 April.
The big win moved Kaizer Chiefs to 45 points. They are now in third place on the log. They sit 10 points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates, but Chiefs have one extra game to play.
Things look very bad for Magesi. The heavy loss means they are still stuck at the bottom of the log in 16th place with only 17 points. They are two points behind Marumo Gallants and ORBIT College. They only have six games left to play in their first season in the top league.
Kaizer Chiefs coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef made only one change to the team that beat TS Galaxy. Inacio Miguel came in for Given Msimango at the back.
Kaizer Chiefs controlled the match from the start. But Magesi almost scored first when Thabang Sibanyoni missed a free header from a corner kick in the 24th minute.
That mistake cost Magesi. Chiefs striker Flavio Silva scored the first goal in the 33rd minute. He turned away from his marker and hit a hard shot past Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze.
Four minutes later, Wandile Duba made it 2-0. He was left unmarked and scored with a low shot just before halftime.
Chiefs kept attacking in the second half. Mduduzi Shabalala scored the third goal in the 62nd minute from a cross by substitute player Reeve Frosler.
Magesi pulled one goal back seven minutes later when Diteboho Mofokeng scored with his head.
But substitute Khanyisa Mayo ended the game for Magesi when he scored the final goal in the 83rd minute to finish the match 4-1.
