Cape Town to host Nedbank Cup final?

By Razeen Gutta

The Mother City’s DHL Stadium is reportedly the current frontrunner to host this year’s Nedbank Cup final.

According to Sportswire, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) have secured the venue for the showpiece event scheduled for 10 May.

Defending champions Orlando Pirates have already their spot in the semi-finals after beating SuperSport United on penalties.

The result marked the 13th consecutive win for the Bucs in the competition under Jose Riveiro and they will already have their sights set on making the final again.

The tournament’s record winners and Pirates’ bitter Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs are another of the semi-finalists. Amakhosi beat Stellenbosch FC to book their place in the last four.

Marumo Gallants knocked out Durban City to become the third semi-finalist while the final team to enter the last four will be determined when Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United face-off in their postponed fixture.

The winner of that game will face Chiefs while Pirates take on Gallants at home.

The dates and venues for the semi-finals are yet to be announced by the PSL — but if reports are to be believed then the final will occur at the DHL Stadium for the first time since the 2017/18 season, when Free State Stars defeated Maritzburg United 1-0.
