Flights have resumed at Cape Town International Airport after a power outage on Sunday disrupted runway lights and other services, causing flight delays and diversions.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed the runway lights were cut, stopping take-offs and landings.

“Kindly note that Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) is currently experiencing a power supply challenge impacting runway lights, airside fire rescue and air traffic navigation services. As a result, flights are not able to land or depart.”

ACSA said technicians were trying to fix the problem.

FlySafair said flights were diverted to Port Elizabeth, and other airlines including Air Mauritius and KLM diverted to Johannesburg.
