Campus love birds hugging their way into trouble

Two much-in-love love birds could not resist hugging and kissing on the campus – and were immediately suspended!

The two students at the Harare Polytechnic in Zimbabwe didn’t realise that their principal, Tafadzwa Madondo, was watching them.

Yolanda Musithu and Blessing Pasipanodya were suspended last week for defying the college’s tight laws regarding Covid-19.

Madondo sent the lovers letters of suspension on 24 March informing them that he had powers to either temporarily suspend them or remove them from the campus for good.

The letter to Yolanda read, “You were caught by the principal on 22 March, 2021, hugging Blessing Pasipanodya. This was in direct violation of the World Health Organization, government and institutional Covid-19 regulations.”

Meanwhile many people, including the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) and the Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu), blasted Madondo.

“This signifies not just insanity but a level of grand stupidity and lack of purpose by the responsible authority,” Artuz said in a statement.

“The right to education should never be compromised through a pathetic justification.”

Secretary-general for Zinasu, Tapiwanashe Chiriga said, “We are putting the principal on notice that he should stop behaving like a toddler with a gun. We are taking steps to make sure that we help the students to get back to school as soon as possible.”
