Afrobeats star Burna Boy has hinted that his sixth studio album will be released on his birthday, 2 July, in an interview with South African comedian Trevor Noah on The Daily Show.

The Grammy award-winning artist from Port Harcourt in Nigeria told Noah in a “riddle” the release date for his album, which has not been named or given cover art yet, in an interview which was shared on Wednesday, 27 April via YouTube.

“Cause you my guy, I won’t let you down in front of all these people,” said Burna Boy jokingly, trying to answer Noah, who was pushing to get an exact release date for the album.

When Burna Boy eventually cracked, he told Noah he would only give him a hint.

“It’s gonna come out on a day everyone celebrates for their self, when it’s their own day,” said

Burna Boy.

He did not deny that United Kingdom singer Ed Sheeran is also going to be featured on the upcoming album.

At the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021, Burna Boy won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album for his last album Twice as Tall which was released in August 2020.

He is managed by his mother, Bose Ogulu, whose father, Benson Idonije, managed the iconic afrobeat artist Fela Kuti.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy, who will be turning 30 years of age this year, is getting ready for his headlining performance at a sold out One Night In Space show in Madison Square Garden, New York City.
