A feud over the ownership of an RDP house has ended tragically after a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his brother.
The tension between the brothers in Umlazi Q section is said to have started after the death of their mother Thokozile Zwane in June last year.
The mother was the owner of the house and since her death the two brothers have been locked in a bitter brawl.
It is alleged that one brother wanted to sell the house, while the other was against the decision.
The disagreement apparently got heated on Tuesday when the suspect – who cannot be named as he hasn’t appeared in court – came with people to view the house.
A physical fight erupted between the two rival brothers. The would-be buyers of the house left without viewing.
Later that day, the suspect came back allegedly armed with a knife, and repeatedly stabbed his younger brother until he died.
A relative, Muzi Sithele, told Scrolla.Africa: “We are deeply saddened. That’s all I can say.”
He wouldn’t be drawn into commenting further.
Neighbour Msizi Mkhize, who was the first to arrive at the bloody scene, said the suspect was like a “raging bull”.
“I have not seen anything like that in my life. This is sad because we are talking about brothers. I don’t want to lie. The suspect was like a raging animal when he attacked his brother. We tried to intervene, but it was too late,” said Mkhize.
The community called the police who arrived and arrested the suspect.
The chairperson of the community policing forum, Mxolisi Mzolo, praised the residents for not taking the law into their hands.
“We will support the family throughout this difficult time,” said Mzolo.
The police confirmed that the suspect was arrested and he is scheduled to appear in court.
