Bright future for on-fire Amajita

By Michael Madyira

South Africa’s Under-20 football team is on fire at the Cosafa Championships in Mozambique.

Amajita have stormed into the semi-finals after dominating Group C.

Coach Raymond Mdaka’s team started strong, thrashing Malawi 6-0. They then beat Lesotho 5-0 and Comoros 2-0.

Scoring 13 goals without conceding shows they mean business. They’ll face Angola next, aiming for a spot in the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

This team could go all the way to the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, following in Benni McCarthy’s footsteps.

The squad’s future looks bright. It includes PSL players like Mamelodi Sundowns’ Siyabonga Mabena, Kutlwano Lethaku, and Cape Town City’s Jody Ah-Shene.

Club Brugge’s Shandre Campbell and Portugal-based goalkeeper Fletcher Smythe-Lowe add international experience.

They’re impressive even without Kaizer Chiefs’ Mfundo Vilakazi, Sundowns’ Asekho Tiwani, and SuperSport’s Neo Rapoo, who were not released by their clubs.

Hopefully, this team won’t be broken up as they develop. They should stick together. Most of the players could become big names soon. Their main goal is the World Cup, where they could catch the eye of big European clubs.
