Residents of the Western Cape have been warned to brace themselves. There is a good chance of snowfall in the province following a cold front that made landfall on Monday night.

The South African Weather Service forecast that the cold front will bring with it rain and they expect this to spread in other parts of the province until Wednesday when it is expected to clear.

But a second cold front, according to Western Cape MEC for Environmental Affairs, Anton Bredell, is expected to hit the province on Friday morning.

“The winter is not over. The cold, wet weather is coming. We are pleading with our people to prepare,” he said.

Bredell said the province’s disaster response teams are on standby for any emergency that may arise.

The culmination of strong winds and cold weather could see light snow falling onto the mountainous areas of south-western parts of the Western Cape Province – and the cold weather may well spread to the rest of the country.
