Orlando Pirates have confirmed the death of former Bafana Bafana coach Stanley Tshabalala, also known as “Bra Stan” or “Screamer,” who died from injuries after being shot at his home in March.

“The Tshabalala and Orlando Pirates family is announcing the sad and untimely passing of Stanley Tshabalala in hospital,” a statement from Pirates read.

“Bra Stan died from the injuries he suffered when he was shot in March this year.”

Tshabalala was a key figure in South African football, leading Bafana in their first official match after readmission in 1992.

He was a founding member of Kaizer Chiefs and coached Mamelodi Sundowns in the 1980s.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala,” Kaizer Chiefs wrote.

“A former player and technical director, he was part of the club between 1996 and 2001. We extend our condolences to the Tshabalala family and Orlando Pirates FC and the South African football family.”

Sundowns also sent their deepest condolences to the family and friends.

“We mourn the loss of Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala. His legacy will be celebrated beyond the football community,” they said in a statement.

Details of the March shooting at Tshabalala’s home remain unknown.
