Boxing manager handed three-year ban

Boxing South Africa has slapped manager Mike Sediane with a three-year ban from the sport.

This comes after he assaulted boxer Jeff Magagane in the ring at the end of his 10-round bout against Sithembiso Maduna in Johannesburg on 31 May.

After Sediane’s client Maduna was declared the loser, it is alleged that Magagane took a swing at Sediane, accusations that could not be proven.

The now suspended manager got hot under the collar and allegedly threw punches at Magagane.

The incident at the Booysens Boxing Club gym left many who were in attendance shell-shocked.

Boxing SA (BSA) also lamented the behaviour, a day after the incident.

“The act done by Sediane is contrary to the spirit espoused by the Boxing Act and Regulations and has brought the sport into disrepute.

“BSA takes this matter very seriously and it is currently receiving attention and the boxing stakeholders will be informed in due course of the outcome,” BSA said at the time.

Sediane took to Facebook to apologise for his behaviour but this week the boxing regulator confirmed its three-year ban on him.

“The necessary steps have been taken. Mr Sediane is banned for three years. What he did to the public broadcaster (SABC), sponsors and other stakeholders was uncalled for and a disgrace to the sport.”

Sediane, a former boxer and owner of African Child Events and Promotion, told Scrolla.Africa he accepts the ban.

“As painful as it is, I must own up. I did apologise to BSA, the boxer I assaulted. From now I will be managing my boxers from behind the scenes because I won’t leave boxing, it’s in my veins,” he said.
