Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface was rushed to hospital when his Mercedes-Benz overturned after crashing into a lorry on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old scored the winner in Leverkusen’s 2-1 win over Frankfurt on Saturday night.

The Nigerian international shared a video of his wrecked car alongside a nasty image of his blood-drenched hand before later posting a selfie with the caption ”Thank you Lord”.

German newspaper Bild said Boniface was a passenger in the accident and sustained minor injuries. No details of the driver or other potential passengers were mentioned.

The police report said: “A 28-year-old was driving a Mercedes in the middle of three lanes in the direction of Frankfurt when, according to his own account, he lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue and collided sideways with a truck that was driving in the right lane next to the Mercedes.”

The damages to the Merc are reportedly around R3.5-million, according to the Mail Online.

Leverkusen, the Bundesliga champions, will play French side Brest in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday.

But Boniface might miss the game due to his injury.
