Bolt driver stabs two women passengers

Two women were allegedly stabbed by a Bolt SA driver in Table View, Cape Town, at the weekend.

Bolt subsequently blocked the driver from operating on its system.

The attack, on 4 May, occurred after the driver allegedly refused to drop the women at their destination. He assaulted one woman and stabbed two others when they attempted to flee.

Sandra Buyole, Bolt Africa’s PR manager, said the company is disturbed by the incident and that such driver behaviour is “completely unacceptable”.

Bolt has contacted the victims to offer support, including face-to-face counselling, and a member of the customer safety support team is set to visit Cape Town to offer the company’s sympathies.

This incident has angered the public, with calls for action from organisations like Women For Change, which has urged for enhanced safety measures to protect women passengers.

The incident has attracted the attention of media personality Siv Ngesi, who said Bolt should not be operating in South Africa because of repeated incidents involving its drivers.

Western Cape SAPS media liaison officer Captain FC Van Wyk said no criminal case had been reported yet.

Bolt has offered full cooperation with the police once a case is filed.
