Captain Siya Kolisi and coach Rassie Erasmus hailed South Africa’s resilience after a hard‑fought 32‑14 victory over Italy in Turin, despite being reduced to 14 men early.
Utility forward Franco Mostert was sent off in the 12th minute for a dangerous tackle. It was the second consecutive week that a Bok received a red card.
Kolisi emphasised the team’s “Africanness,” noting that they constantly adapt plans on the field and remain grateful for the coaching staff’s preparation for every scenario.
“We make plans because there are always stumbles,” he told reporters, praising the collective fight despite seeing hurt in Mostert’s eyes.
Erasmus expressed frustration at the officiating and the physical cost on players like Kolisi, who marked his 100th test, and Ben‑Jason Dixon, who earned a rare start.
He acknowledged the squad’s ability to cope with adversity but warned that repeated suspensions – such as Makazole Mapimpi and Jasper Wiese – are taking a toll on the game.
Though proud of the result and the team’s unity, Erasmus remained sad for the players bearing the brunt of unintended mistakes.
The Springboks depart for Ireland on Sunday.
