Boks end the year as the best

By Razeen Gutta

The Springboks emerged victorious in Dublin on Saturday, defeating Ireland 24-13.

The game was notable for its numerous yellow cards and a red card, but the hosts’ aggressive tactics ultimately failed to ruffle South Africa’s feathers.

Despite Ireland’s best efforts, the Boks dominated the scrum, lineout and gain line, with their pack’s power proving too much for the Irish.

The visitors took an early lead through a beautifully worked try from Damian Willemse, and despite Ireland’s fightback, the Boks maintained their advantage.

The game was not without its talking points, though, with several contentious decisions made by referee Matthew Carley.

Ireland’s James Ryan was given a 20-minute red card for an illegal cleanout, while several other incidents sparked debate.

The Boks’ win was a statement of intent, showcasing their dominance and firepower.

However, their failure to capitalise on numerous scoring opportunities will raise questions. The scoreline may not have flattered the Boks, but their performance was a clear indication of their strength and quality.

This victory marks a significant milestone with South Africa finally having won in Dublin under Rassie Erasmus. They will take the confidence into the new year as the world’s top-ranked team.
