Body of murdered child robbed from hearse

The body of a five-year-old child, who was poisoned in a murder-suicide by her mother, was allegedly robbed at gunpoint on its way to the child’s final resting place.

Amina Mavuka, 31, left a tragic note when took her own life after murdering Adeize – along with Adeize’s 10-year-old brother Desire – last week.

In a message to her family, she wrote: “I am sorry. I had to do this. But I am tired of life.”

Amina’s brother, Tatenda Mavuka, said that shortly after Wednesday’s memorial service in Ivory Park ext 2 for the young family, Adeize’s body was placed in a Quantum taxi which was being used as a hearse to transport her body and mourners to Zimbabwe.

But, he said, the taxi carrying Adeize’s body was stopped on the N1 by another vehicle and the driver was forced at gunpoint to move her body into the car.

A dramatic chase ensued and the speeding vehicle was stopped at a police roadblock before the Beitbridge border post.

The police at the roadblock had been told that the girl’s body was removed from the hearse because of a family dispute involving the girl’s estranged father.

Instead of arresting the driver of the vehicle, they ordered the vehicle to be sent back to Ivory Park with a police escort, where Amina’s family opened a criminal case.

The two vehicles carrying each of the other deceased were also sent back to Ivory Park.

Thankfully, the bodies of the deceased were later safely transported back to their final resting place in Zimbabwe.
