When Nolwazi Ngcobo went missing last week, her mother Thandi clung on to the hope that her daughter would be returned to their Inanda home, alive and unharmed.
But her hopes were in vain. Nolwazi’s lifeless body was found with stabbing wounds in a nearby bush on Tuesday. She was curled up like a fetus in a mother’s womb. Her blood-stained clothes indicated that she had been stabbed to death.
The grief-stricken mother of the 22 year old said she was still in shock.
“I am unable to speak at the moment,” she told Scrolla.Africa.
Nolwazi’s friend Nokuthula Mkhize said the picture of her lifeless body will be etched in her memory forever.
“I didn’t know that the first time I would see a dead body, it would be that of my friend.”
The entire Inanda community joined hands searching for Nolwazi.
“We searched everywhere. When we didn’t find her, we started searching in the bushes,” said Nokuthula.
Nolwazi’s neighbour Nomaswazi Hlongwane called for more police presence in Inanda.
“Even Minister Bheki Cele knows that the crime is high here, but nothing is being done to stop crime,” she said.
“Just like young children of her age she was not a saint, but she was respectful.”
Thabani Khumalo, the head of the community policing forum, said they were doing everything to curb crime in the area.
“We need more people to join our forum so that we can cover the entire Inanda township.”
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the incident.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”
She said no arrests have been made.
