Who would have thought acting a fool in South Africa could give an artist enough momentum to launch a music career.
Famous for cursing and yelling funny rhymes under his alter ego Big Xhosa, rapper Sesethu Myeki also known by his other stage name SOS, the conscious rapper version of the artist – has managed to turn his music career around using this funny yet aggressive approach.
Having gained much attention when he trended for his first song “Ninyile”, a diss song which targeted all SA rappers in April 2021, the 22-year-old is still at it, releasing new music almost every week.
Big Xhosa’s recent offering “Can’t Fall Off” freestyle released on 29 September, featured himself, SOS. The rapper shows off SOS’s skills of wordplay and metaphors in his lyrics.
“You think that I fell off cause I ain’t trending on Twitter, I still pull numbers like I am a lottery ticket,” raps SOS addressing those who say he has become a “cliché”.
Although he may be famous for funny lyrics, the rapper – from a small village called Cathcart in the Eastern Cape – made it clear in an interview with DRUM magazine that he is not a comedian, saying he only wants his raps to “evoke emotions out of people by making them smile or laugh.”
