Despite beating Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, PSG finished as runners-up in group H of the Uefa Champions League.
Benfica claimed a 6-1 win over Maccabi Haifa to top the group in a group stage final on Wednesday.
Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Nuno Mendes helped PSG to a 2-1 win over Juventus and after being level on the first six tiebreakers, it came down to away goals scored between PSG and Benfica.
The Portuguese outfit edged it on away goals scored as their six away at Maccabi Haifa helped them to the upset.
In group E, Chelsea and AC Milan progressed with the Blues beating Dinamo Zagreb 2-1. Milan defeated Salzburg 4-0 so the Bundesliga leaders will play in the Europa League for the remainder of the campaign.
Real Madrid beat Celtic 5-1 to claim top spot in their group with Leipzig’s 4-0 away victory over Shakhtar Donetsk enough to earn them only second place.
The 17-year-old Rico Lewis and new signing Julian Alvarez scored for Manchester City in the absence of Erling Haaland as Pep Guardiola’s side won 3-1 over Sevilla at the Etihad.
Borussia Dortmund and Copenhagen played out a 1-1 draw. Dortmund will finish in second place behind the Citizens.
