India thrashed England by an innings and 64 runs in the final test at Dharamsala to win the series 4-1.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the star of the latest show as the ace spinner picked up a five-wicket haul in his landmark 100th test match for India.

Kuldeep Yadav supported Ashwin with the ball, picking up five wickets of his own in the first innings.

With the bat, India only needed one go, as captain Rohit Sharma starred again with a century while Shubman Gill’s return to form was also marked by another special hundred.

Man of the series Yashasvi Jaiswal got another half century to go with his 712 runs, which included two double centuries.

England’s popular attacking approach, known as “Bazball”, worked well in the Hyderabad opener.

However critics were quick to shut the tactic down after Sharma and company figured Brendon McCullum’s side out for the remainder of the tour.

Despite the absence of Virat Kohli and other first-teamers, youngsters Sarfaraz Khan (56) and Devdutt Padikkal (65) did well in the finale to showcase, in style, the squad depth that the Indians possess.

All attention will now turn to the short format as the Indian Premier League kicks off on 22 March with Chennai Super Kings taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
