Banyana Banyana crowned the Champions of the Cosafa Women’s Championship for the fourth time in a row with a 2-1 victory over Botswana in the final at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Goals from Sibulele Holweni and Gabriella Salgado were enough for Banyana to retain the title.
Banyana Banyana’s title defence got off to a great start with Holweni’s goal in the first minute.
Hilda Magaia could have increased the lead for Banyana Banyana but poor finishing let her down.
Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dhlamini pulled a great save to keep the score at 1-0 and to deny Botswana an equaliser.
The game went to half time with Banyana Banyana leading Botswana by a goal to nil.
In the second half Botswana came back strong in search of an equaliser. However Andile Dhlamini stood firm in goals for Banyana Banyana.
In the 65th minute Salgado extended Banyana Banyana’s lead to take the score to 2-0 with a cool finish inside the box.
Botswana pulled one back in the 85th minute but Banyana held on to clinch the victory and successfully defended the title.
