- The South African women won their first football match against Algeria at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Tuesday.
- Nthabiseng Majiya scored the only goal of the game to give the home team a win before playing on Friday.
Banyana Banyana beat Algeria 1-0 in a football match at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu on Tuesday.
The game was a warm-up for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) which will take place in 2026.
Nthabiseng Majiya scored the winning goal 36 minutes into the match. She took a shot from the edge of the box after Refiloe Jane passed her the ball.
The South African team controlled the match and created chances to score. It was a big day for defender Bambanani Mbane, who played her 100th match for her country.
This was the first of two games against the North African team in Durban. The second match will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Friday.
The Wafcon tournament starts on 26 July. It was moved from March after early doubts about Morocco hosting the event, but those problems have been fixed.
