Dorcus Nyambi, a former Standard Bank employee, has been sentenced to eight years for embezzling R940,000 from the account of a client who had passed away.
The 37-year-old Nyambi, who worked as an administrator in Tonga, Mpumalanga, was convicted of fraudulently reactivating a dormant account while the deceased’s family was processing their estate claim.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, Nyambi and her accomplices added beneficiaries to the revived account. They transferred various sums to these linked accounts, defrauding Standard Bank of nearly a million rand.
According to IOL, Nyambi was convicted under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act of 1998 and faced two counts under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2002.
