Bafana back home to a hero’s welcome

Bafana Bafana, South Africa’s national football team, received a warm welcome upon their return from the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), landing at OR Tambo International Airport early on Wednesday.

The team was met by enthusiastic fans, celebrating their Afcon bronze medal victory.

In support of the team’s achievement, the Gautrain offered free rides to fans wearing Bafana Bafana colours or carrying South African flags to and from the airport.

This gesture aimed to encourage supporters to attend the welcoming event and the following press conference, recognising the team’s third-place finish and being awarded the Afcon Fair Play Award.

Tshepo Kgobe, CEO of the Gautrain Management Agency, shared the nation’s pride in Bafana Bafana, encouraging public participation in the team’s homecoming.

Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa praised the team for getting national enthusiasm for football, recognising the squad’s performance which was beyond expectations.

Safa president Danny Jordaan praised captain Ronwen Williams, highlighting his leadership and recognition as the tournament’s best goalkeeper in the African Best XI team.
