Ghana international Christian Atsu who has been missing since an earthquake hit Turkey on 6 February has been found dead under the rubble of his home.
The 31-year-old was a well-known African football star who plied his trade at an array of top-flight English clubs including Bournemouth, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle United.
He was misidentified last week and reported to have been taken to hospital, however there is now closure for all those associated with the player.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well-wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning. My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones,” his agent Nna Sechere said in a statement.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support. I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”
