Not to be outdone by the EFF in the singing of anti-white struggle era songs, the ANC has come up with their own version of “Kill the Boer”.
This particular song is hardly ever sung at ANC gatherings, largely because of the graphic nature of its lyrics.
The lyrics include, “Here, take this bazooka and kill and wipe out all these boers who are dogs”.
While the song is part of the ANC’s proud struggle against apartheid, it is shunned by the majority of ANC leaders and supporters in liberated South Africa.
Many were therefore shocked yesterday when ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula posted a video of a group of ANC supporters proudly resurrecting the song.
In the video was the lead singer, Inkosi Bangisizwe Mtoto, who recently ascended to the seat of senior traditional leader for Chafutweni administrative area in the Eastern Cape.
Mtoto is the spokesperson for King Ahlangene Vulikhaya Sigcau of the Xhosa people.
King Sigcau rules over one of the strongest bases of the Eastern Cape, home to struggle veterans including Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Govan Mbeki and many others.
The nation remains divided on the singing of struggle era songs, with former president Thabo Mbeki recently saying there was no room for such songs in post-apartheid South Africa.
“You could understand why Peter (Mokaba) would say ‘kill the Boer, kill the farmer’ then. When I saw Julius (Malema) the other day on TV saying this thing, I was asking myself why is it necessary?
“We can’t be singing it now. There’s no MK that’s going to be killing anyone, so why do we sing it? I was saying to myself why does he say it?
“The slogans have a context. They were shouting it in 1952, but by 1962 it was irrelevant,” Mbeki told students at Unisa, where he is the chancellor.
On 4 September, the Supreme Court of Appeal is due to hear an appeal by AfriForum on the ruling of the Equality Court that found that the chant “Kill the Boer” was not hate speech.
