George Mashamba, the chairperson of the Integrity Commission, told Scrolla.Africa that they will reach out to the minister and map a way forward.
“He will have to appear before the commission to state his side of the story,” said Mashamba.
This comes after Dr Zweli Mkhize, whose future as Health Minister hangs by a thread, last week snubbed the Integrity Commission.
Mashamba would not comment further, telling Scrolla.Africa to contact the party leadership.
Mkhize is fighting to resuscitate his ailing political career amid allegations that he benefitted from a R150 million Digital Vibes contract.
He was placed on special leave by President Cyril Ramaphosa a week ago.
It appears that Mkhize is slowly gaining support after some branches in KZN, which he once led as premier and ANC chairperson, dared Ramaphosa to sack him.
Mkhize occupied the position of ANC treasurer-general from 2012 to 2017 during Jacob Zuma’s tenure.
In 2017, Mkhize threw his hat into the ring for the position of ANC president but later withdrew.
It is expected that he would run again for the same position when the ruling party holds its elective conference in December 2022.
Mkhize declined to comment.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said all members were expected to respect all party organs, including the Integrity Commission.
Ramaphosa said he was waiting for the Special Investigating Unit before making a decision on Mkhize.
Political analyst Thabani Khumalo said Mkhize has been able to rally support for himself before.
“He will do the same, as he fights to save his political career,” said Khumalo.
