ANC ward 50 Councillor Lunga Nombhexeza will spend seven days in jail before knowing if he will be granted bail.

Nombhexeza, who is also SACP District secretary, briefly appeared in KwaNobuhle Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he allegedly fired shots at the driver of a vehicle on Saturday evening.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said “it is alleged that on Saturday at about 23:45, a 42-year-old complainant was driving a Toyota Tazz on his way to Pityana Street. At the corner of Pityana and Kinikini streets he saw the suspect coming out of the yard with a firearm. The suspect fired several shots at the complainant’s car. No injuries were sustained. The complainant drove away and stopped Metro police officials in the street and reported the matter.”

She said police went back to the scene and the complainant pointed out the house. A firearm was thrown out of the window of the house.

“The suspect was apprehended by police who handed him over to the SAPS on their arrival. The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis,” she said.

“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage as the suspect and complainant do not know each other.”
