- The Nelson Mandela Bay ANC failed to meet the 70% branch threshold, forcing it to postpone its regional conference for the fourth time this week.
- Buffalo City ANC met the 70% requirement but postponed its conference after unresolved disputes over branch meetings stopped it from going ahead.
The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape has once more delayed key conferences in Buffalo City Metro and Nelson Mandela Bay.
The Buffalo City Metro ANC has pushed back its elective conference more than five times since May. This week, the Nelson Mandela Bay region announced its fourth delay.
The Nelson Mandela Bay ANC could not reach the 70% threshold of qualified branches needed to hold a regional conference. Branch disputes have been dragging on for months.
Regional task team co-ordinator Siphiwo Tshaka wrote to provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukaitobi on Monday to confirm the postponement.
“There are branches that have not resolved their appeals, some of them were lodged as far back as June. Without these branches, we don’t reach the 70% threshold required for qualifying branches to be able to go to the conference,” he said.
The Nelson Mandela Bay conference was set for this weekend. Buffalo City Metro’s was meant to sit earlier in the week, with alternative dates between Thursday and Sunday.
Buffalo City Metro has already met the 70% threshold but cancelled the conference due to ongoing disputes about branch general meetings.
So far, no new dates have been set for either conference.
