American rightwinger mocked vaccine days before he died of Covid

Last Friday, H. Scott Apley uploaded a post onto his Facebook page expressing his doubt over the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine. At roughly 3am on Wednesday, he passed away due to complications arising from the virus.

Apley, aged just 45, was a Dickinson City Council member and State Republican Executive Committee member in Texas.

Friday’s post was far from the first time he expressed opposition towards the vaccine. His social media pages have been littered with memes railing against the vaccine, masks and Covid restrictions for well over a year.

In April, medical journalist Dr. Leana Wen wrote a tweet expressing her excitement over recent successful trials of the Pfizer vaccine.

Apley did not mince his words in his response, typing back  “You are an absolute enemy of a free people.”

In May, Apley posted an invitation for a “mask burning” event being held at a bar in another city, writing, “I wish I lived in the area!”

Just two weeks earlier, he shared an article on social media about the perks and freebies being offered to people who receive the jab, describing them as “disgusting.”

He even went so far as to compare German rules enforcing the wearing of masks to Nazi Germany.

On Wednesday, the Galveston County Republican Party shared news of Apley’s death via a Facebook post.

Later that day, a fundraiser was set up by Apley’s family, which said that he had died batting Covid-19 after being sedated and put on a ventilator.

The fundraiser’s web page went on to say that his wife, Melissa has also tested positive, but she had not been hospitalised. Apley leaves behind an infant son named Reid, who is currently under the care of Melissa’s mother.

Apley’s death is the latest in a growing pattern of vaccine skeptics who have either got very ill or have died from Covid-19 after turning down the jab.

A Texan radio host who advised his listeners not to receive the vaccine is currently fighting for his life after contracting Covid-19.
