AmaZulu FC are set to face the wrath of both FIFA and the Court of Arbitration, after they breached terms in the contracts of their former coaches.
Cavin Johnson, now an assistant to Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly, was fired by AmaZulu FC in September 2019.
He had two years left on his contract at the time.
Josef Vukusic, who replaced Johnson, was sacked in August 2020. The Durban club cited poor results as the reason for showing the two coaches the door.
Vukusic’s agent, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi, confirmed to Scrolla.Africa that the Slovakian mentor took the case to FIFA.
“We believe we have a strong case against AmaZulu because they terminated his contract abruptly. We want a settlement of R500,000. We are confident justice will prevail and AmaZulu will be taught a lesson,” said Mulovhedzi, adding that his client was back home and is ready to take on any job.
Agent Mike Makaab said he was no longer representing Johnson but Scrolla.Africa understands that the coach took his case to CAS in Switzerland.
AmaZulu media officer Brilliant Mkhathini confirmed the club was aware of the cases. “What I have been told by the management is that the cases are pending. There have been postponements after postponement from FIFA,” said Mkhathini.
Should the judgement rule in both coaches’ favour, AmaZulu FC are set to part with millions in settlements. In most cases, when the accused are hauled before FIFA disciplinary hearings, they don’t get away with it.
Two years ago, AmaZulu FC was fined over R1 million and docked six points after being found guilty of breaching Namibian international Phineas Nambadi’s contract.
