  • Tebogo G Mashego accused DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small of profiting from his hit song Biri Marung while he remains unpaid.
  • The 23-year-old broke down on Instagram Live from Nigeria, saying he was stranded without money until DJ Karri bought his flight home.

Amapiano artist Tebogo G Mashego says Scorpion Kings, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small owe him R23-million in royalties for his breakout hit Biri Marung.

The 23-year-old shot to fame in 2024 when the track went viral under Sony Music. But Mashego says despite the song’s huge success, he has “not received a cent.”

He went public on 19 September during an emotional Instagram Live. Speaking from Nigeria, he said he had travelled there for what he thought was a paid gig, only for the deal to collapse on arrival.

Stranded and broke, he said the duo made R64-million from a recent event while he could not afford a ticket home. His desperate appeal sparked the hashtags #PayTebogo and #BiriMarungRoyalties, with fans demanding answers.

Breaking down, Mashego shared his banking details for donations and said he was reduced to drinking the cheapest beers while stuck abroad.

Fellow artist DJ Karri stepped in, booking him a flight back to South Africa on 20 September.

Mashego says Scorpion Kings and Sony Music have not responded to his claims.
