- Gaston Sirino scored the only goal as Kaizer Chiefs beat Richards Bay 1-0 on Tuesday night at FNB Stadium.
- Assistant coaches are still running the team while head coach Nasreddine Nabi remains in Tunisia with his injured wife.
Kaizer Chiefs are riding high with three wins in a row, but now all eyes are on their next test: Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium.
The team is hoping head coach Nasreddine Nabi will return to South Africa this week to lead the build-up. Since the season began, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have been in charge, with Nabi in Tunisia after his wife was badly hurt in a car crash.
“Nabi will be with us I hope this week to prepare for the next game against Sundowns,” said Ben Youssef after their latest win.
On Tuesday night, Amakhosi edged out Richards Bay 1-0 thanks to a thunderous 58th-minute strike by Gastón Sirino. It was the team’s third straight victory and another boost before facing Sundowns.
Ben Youssef praised Sirino’s form and work ethic this season. “Sirino came back with a good attitude, we discussed his ideas, and he is excited to perform and help the team,” he said. “Congratulations to him and all the players.”
Chiefs had a slow start against Richards Bay but stepped up in the second half. Ben Youssef said the players enjoyed the atmosphere but should have finished the game off earlier.
“In the second half we were happy with the first 15 minutes,” he said. “But when you score, you first have to think of killing the game.”
