AKA sues to pull the plug on The Braai Show with Cass

Rapper AKA has sent a “notice letter of entitlement to copyrights” to Cake Media and SABC demanding that they pull the plug on The Braai Show with Cass.

AKA, whose real name is Keirnan Forbes, was the show’s host in its previous season. But the bordascaster announced last weekend that he would be replaced by rival rapper Cassper Nyovest.

AKA owns 50% of the show and is also listed as an executive producer, his legal team, TailorMade Legal Solutions, said on Monday. He is therefore entitled to have a say on who will replace him for season two, they argued.

The show is scheduled to air from Wednesday, 8 September, on SABC 1.

“This letter serves as a formal written notice of our Client’s (AKA) demand to have this dispute referred to arbitration,” TailorMade Legal Solutions wrote to the SABC on Wednesday.

“Advising you that failure to respond hereto before the expiry of 48 (forty-eight) hours will leave our client with no option but to obtain interim relief,” threatened the legal team.

This means that if the SABC chooses to ignore the letter and continues to air the show with Cake Media, AKA will file for a court order to force the SABC to reinstate him as the show host until the dispute is settled.
