Get ready for a regal spectacle as the 18th edition of the KwaZulu-Natal Dundee July Horse Racing event gallops into town under the theme of “African Royalty”.
This highly anticipated affair promises to attract notable figures from the entertainment industry, making it an occasion to remember.
Taking place in the coal mining town of Dundee, located in the uMzinyathi district of KZN, the event is set to offer a thrilling programme on Saturday.
The lineup includes twelve exhilarating races, including two races dedicated exclusively to women.
This year’s event features an international race called “Umtelebhelo we-Afrika”, aimed at uplifting locals through economic development and other opportunities, according to Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture in KZN.
Fashion designers, who have always played a significant role in the Dundee July, will display their art during the main race.
Rural models, such as Wandile Ngobese, said they were excited about the event, considering it a platform to showcase their talent after feeling undermined at the Durban
July.
Ngobese and other models hope for increased prizes and better compensation from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
The Dundee July Horse Racing event was initiated in 2005 by former KZN Premier Sbu Ndebele and the late MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Amichand Rajbansi.
The event has since become one of the most glamorous shows in the province. This year’s buildup included a career expo, fashion shows, and the Miss and Mr Dundee July pageant competition.
The festivities will culminate in a parade featuring horses and representatives of various community sectors.
