Suspended ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has posted on social media in recent days showing himself playing chess and boxing.
But he has been outboxed and outwitted by his arch-enemy ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.
So Magashule is now apparently seeking refuge in the courts.
Magashule loyalist Carl Niehaus told SABC radio on Thursday that Ace would be supported by several ANC national executive committee members in a bid to throw out the suspension.
Niehaus, a spokesman for the MK Veterans’ Association who works out of Magashule’s former office at ANC headquarters Luthuli House, said the legal action would happen “as soon as possible” and that an apology was not likely to be forthcoming from Magashule.
The legal action, he said, would include a challenge to the step aside resolution from the ANC’s December 2018 elective conference.
The ANC demanded a public apology from Magashule over the letter he wrote after he was suspended in which he purported to suspend ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Magashule has 48 hours to apologize for this infraction, which expires at midday on Friday.
Niehaus said, however, that Magashule would not be apologizing any time soon due to the pending court action against his suspension.
“I think the legal process must now proceed and that will determine the outcome of all these issues, including this demand for an apology.”
Contacted on Thursday night, Magashule was cagey about Niehaus’ comments.
“Let’s us wait until midday tomorrow to see whether there’s something like that,” he said.
