King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of the Abathembu nation has revealed his intention to divorce Queen Nokwanda, who was widely regarded as the heir-bearer for the Thembu nation.
King Dalindyebo made this startling announcement during a royal family meeting at the Bumbano Great Palace in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday afternoon.
It was at this gathering that he introduced his fiancée, Khazeka Nolubabalo Mcinga, 42, as the next queen, hailing from Graaff-Reinet.
Mcinga is a prominent filmmaker and gender activist in the Eastern Cape and also belongs to the uMangxongo royal family.
Adding a unique twist to the story, Mcinga arrived at the Abathembu royal meeting in a black Mercedes Benz GLE Coupe, which was gifted to the king by EFF leader Julius Malema.
Mthunzi Ngonyama, the king’s spokesperson, clarified that the current queen does not oppose the divorce.
“Regarding his marriage with Queen Nokwanda, His Majesty still maintains that she remains his wife who has given birth to his successor to the throne.
“However, for the registration process of his marriage to Queen Khazeka, the civil marriage aspect of his union with Queen Nokwanda will need to be dissolved, as it prevents him from taking another queen,” stated Ngonyama.
He further mentioned that Nokwanda did not express any objections.
