Given the poor performance of South Africa’s national cricket team, it is no surprise that they have dropped to seventh in the ICC test rankings.
South Africa’s most recent Test activity was a disappointing 2-0 series defeat to fifth-ranked Pakistan in February.
In the latest ICC update, the West Indies have moved up two spots above South Africa and eighth-placed Sri Lanka.
Cricket South Africa’s director of cricket, Graeme Smith, recently said they could play two Test matches and five T20 internationals in the Caribbean during a tour which will start in early June.
Although it is not officially confirmed, the Proteas’ next test activity could be against the West Indies at venues which had not yet been finalised.
This is as part of the start of an intensive build-up to the T20 World Cup in a bid to assemble a competitive squad.
The Proteas are ranked fifth in the ODI ladder and sixth in the T20 rankings.
India still lead the standings with New Zealand second ahead of their ICC Test Championship final in Southampton starting on 18 June.
England moved above Australia into third position in the test rankings.
