Ivan Barnes, the president of the NFP, has threatened disciplinary action against the mayor of Nongoma and the deputy mayor of eThekwini for insubordination and ill-discipline.
Barnes has given Zandile Myeni of eThekwini and Clifford “Mshangane” Ndabandaba until 10 July to explain why they should not be hauled over the coals.
The threatened disciplinary action against the two NFP members is contained in letters Barnes sent to them on Wednesday this week and which Scrolla.Africa has seen.
Myeni, the deputy mayor in eThekwini as part of the coalition deal the NFP has with the ANC, is accused of failing to attend a meeting of the party’s national executive committee in Ulundi on 22 March.
Barnes, on behalf of the national executive committee, wants Myeni to explain why she failed to pitch up. If not, she must provide reasons why she should not be suspended.
In his letter to Ndabandaba, Barnes said he had “rudely” walked out of a meeting in Vryheid on 6 April.
“[You] rudely left the meeting after it started, citing that you had other commitments,” reads part of the letter.
Ndabandaba told Scrolla.Africa: “Yes, I can confirm that I got the letter you are asking me about, and I will respond in due course.”
Myeni could not be reached for comment by the time of publication.
