Fans were looking forward to seeing Zodwa wa Bantu perform at Joe’s Palace in Langaville, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday night, but the singer didn’t show up.

Despite the cold weather, they stayed late into the night, hoping she would eventually turn up, but they left disappointed.

Joe’s Palace owner, Ntombi Zitha, said they booked Zodwa in the first week of June.

“Her manager quoted us R7,000 and provided a list of requests to ensure her comfort, which included a platter, two bottles of whisky, and security. Once the deposit was paid, Zodwa took over, demanding the full balance, which we promptly paid,” Zitha said.

He asked Zodwa for a promotional video last week to help sell tickets.

She agreed, and everything seemed fine until Saturday night.

“On the night of the event, we tried calling her manager to check their progress, but his phone was off.

“After many attempts, we finally reached him, and he told us that he didn’t know what was happening as he was attending a funeral. Meanwhile, Zodwa’s phone was off, and our WhatsApp messages were not going through,” Zitha said.

People demanded their money back from him because Zodwa didn’t perform.

Zodwa eventually responded with a voice note on Monday afternoon, apologising to Zitha for not honouring her booking.

“Let’s work with what happened; there is no bad publicity. I apologise and propose that we set another date,” Zodwa said.

“On the bright side, you got their attention. They now know you, and we control what groovers want. They won’t pay for the next event,” Zodwa said.
