Kaizer Chiefs have yet to announce Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach officially, but the club is busy with player transfers.
Earlier this week, the Soweto giants offloaded four senior players: Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Njabulo Ngcobo.
This has raised questions about who is responsible for these transfer decisions when Nabi is still busy with Moroccan side As Far Rabat, which has reached the Throne Cup final.
For a club that has been making transfer blunders in recent seasons, this could be worrying for Chiefs’ success-starved fans.
Two seasons ago, the Soweto giants parted ways with players like Daniel Cardoso, Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi when they were yet-to-be-spent forces.
It seems that Amakhosi is repeating the same transfer mistakes by getting rid of the experienced Dolly, Hlanti and Sithebe.
To show that Nabi is not behind what is happening, Hlanti’s agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, said Chiefs had informed him that they are waiting for the Tunisian trainer to assess the defender.
But to his surprise, the left-back was told he was no longer required at Naturena.
Over the years, there has been criticism of Amakhosi management over allegations that they impose players on coaches.
If this is what is happening, then the Soweto giants might as well forget about challenging Mamelodi Sundowns for the Premier Soccer League title.
Naturally, Nabi should have already started work at Chiefs, who have begun pre-season training.
The coach’s absence means Chiefs could lack proper planning for next season regarding the material needed and the system of play.
